UNESCO heritage combined with a visit to a cenote and the colonial city of Valladolid

Our private Chichen Itza tour takes you to the impressive Mayan temples of Chichen Itza. The pyramid of Kukulkan, an important Mayan deity, is one of the most famous monuments in Mexico. It is one of the New 7 wonders of the world and was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1988. In addition to the majestic Kukulkan pyramid, there are other well-preserved complexes, such as the largest ancient ball court in Central America. The nearby sacred cenote is easily accessible and explains the water supply of the great Mayan city.

After this extensive visit to Chichen Itza, we drive to the Balankanche caves. The cenotes lead us straight into the Mayan underworld Xibalba. Well-preserved offerings of the ancient Maya to the gods of the underworld are built up under the stalactite formations. We will have lunch before we continue to the Mayan ruins Coba. There we take a bicycle rishka to the impressive structures and get to know Coba, Chichen Itza's big competitor at that time.

Private excursion to Chichen Itza: Chichen Itza- underground cave – Coba

Experience Chichen Itza before the big busses arrive. We recommend starting our private excursions to Chichen Itza very early, so you can enjoy the archaeological site without the crowds. Also at this time in the morning the temperature is still convenient for a visit of the Mayan ruins. To arrive Chichen tza from Playa del Carmen, it takes about 2,5 hours. Once there, we take you on a journey to the ancient Maya. You will learn about the architecture of the temples, the knowledge and religion of the Maya, their social structures and astronomy.

Our next stop is a dry cenote close to Chichen Itza. We walk deep into the cave system, what the ancient Maya believed the entrance to the underworld Xibalba. Well-preserved offerings for the gods of the underworld let us understand the importance of these gods. The underground caves are pleasantly fresh and we explore the cave system with its stalactite formations.

After a lunch close to the caves, we head 1.5 hours to Coba. At the time, Coba was a serious competitor of Chichen Itza and had an extensive trading network. The structures in COba are not directly next to each other, That is why we take a bicycle rhiska. If you are not afraid of heights, you can climb the highest pyramid of the Yucatan Peninsula, Nohoch Mul.

This excursion is a full day excursion and we will be back in Playa del Carmen around 6 pm. During our private Chichen Itza excursions, we are completely flexible and can arrange the day as our guests wish. We are happy to provide suggestions for an unforgettable day and adapt our Chichen Itza excursions to the personal wishes of our guests.

An alternative to this excursion to Chichen Itza is our private excursion to Chichen Itza, Cenote, Valladolid.
