Private Excursion to the Mayan sites Chichen Itza, Ek Balam and Cenote
Our private Chichen Itza tour takes us to the Mayan temples of Chichen Itza. The pyramid of the Mayan deity Kukulkan is one of the most important monuments in Mexico. It is one of the new 7 wonders of the world and was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1988. In addition to the majestic Kukulkan pyramid, there are other well-preserved complexes, such as the largest ancient ball playground in Central America. The nearby sacred cenote is easily accessible and explains the water supply to the great Mayan city.
The very well preserved Mayan site Ek Balam was excavated in 1997. The view from the Acropolis is breathtaking and the white stucco arts form a pleasant contrast to Chichen Itza. On the way back we stop at an impressive cenote with limestone formations, where we enjoy a typical mexican lunch.
Our private excursion to Chichen Itza, Ek Balam and Cenote includes
Experience Chichen Itza before the arrival of many others! We pick you up from the agreed meeting point early in the morning and drive directly to the archaeological site of Chichen Itza. So you can enjoy the Mayan ruins in peace and the temperatures are still convenient in the morning. From Playa del Carmen it takes approximately 2 hours to get to Chichen Itza. Once there, we travel back to the times of the ancient Maya. We learn details about the architecture of the temples, the knowledge of the Mayan people and their religion, their social structures and astronomy.
After a detailed tour in Chichen Itza, we head to the Mayan site Ek Balam. It takes about an hour to get there. The Acropolis rises majesticly above the others, very well-preserved structures. Here we enjoy an indescribable view from above of the archeological site and the surrounding jungle. The platforms on the way up have various surprises. For example, the snake gate is perfectly preserved and a wonderful photo opportunity.
After so much Mayan culture we enjoy a refreshing swim in a nearby cenote. This one is under a complex cave system. The water is wonderfully cool and crystal clear at 21 degrees / 70 Fahrenheit. Limestone formations rise imposingly from the water and form a gigantic grotto. Right next door we get a typical lunch. Drinks are not included.
This excursion is a full day excursion and we will be back in Playa del Carmen around 6pm.
