Excursion to the Mayan ruins of Chacchoben

There is a lot to discover in the archaeological site of Chacchoben, next to the village with the same name. Few Mayan people live there quite remote. The Mayan ruins of Chacchoben still have much of their originality and are surprisingly well preserved. Architecturally, they were influenced by the Maya from Peten-Guatemala, their most important time was between 200 and 900 AD. Today, spider monkeys relax in the structures of the sun and moon pyramid.

Go and discover the ancient world of the Maya, the Mayan heritage can be found everywhere in the south-east of Mexico. Ancient temples, the ceremonial center, well-preserved structures, perfectly embedded in the typical flora and fauna. Keep your eyes and ears open when the woodpecker knocks against the trees, giant toads hide in the ground and the monkeys swing in the branches of old trees.

Description

Mayan Legacy: Excursion to the Mayan ruins of Chacchoben - boat trip on the lagoon of Bacalar

The meeting point is close to the cruise port.

From our meeting point, we head in an air-conditioned van to the archeological Mayan ruins of Chacchoben. It will take about an hour from Costa Maya. There we travel back in times to the ancient Mayan world, in which Chacchoben played an important role. The construction dates from the second century to the ninth century AD. We will learn about the local flora and fauna, the religion of the Maya and the meaning of the sun and moon god as well as elements from the Mayan architecture.
